Im 14 and need something to do while on the road during my road trip to my vacation spot. I need a good horror book to keep me entertained. Lots of action, minimal romance (none is better), and not impossible to understand for someone my age. The books at school are mostly boring and i have seen rated R movies so dont worry about the bloody stuff …. PS- not just blood either, make sure their is suspense and makes me think a little but not too confusing
Anything by Stephen King.

The Devouring by Simon Holt
Amazon.com description/review: “When the dark creeps in and eats the light, / Bury your fears on Sorry Night,” begins this creepy tale that reads like A Nightmare on Elm Street with a dollop of demonic possession. Reggie Halloway, a mousy girl and avid horror fan, discovers a strange journal while working at an occult bookstore. Upon investigation, she learns about the Vours, horrific demons who feed on fear and take over the body, morphing its host into a cold, cruel creature. When, as a prank, Reggie and her friend Aaron attempt to summon a Vour, things go horribly awry and a Vour takes over the body of her little brother, Henry. Reggie then must battle the Vours to try to get her brother’s soul back into his body. In this introductory volume, cinematic in its scope, Holt borrows conventions from many horror films, including a Stygian carnival complete with killer clowns and dreams in which injuries can manifest themselves in the real world. A scary yarn spun at breakneck speed, perfect for those chilly winter nights.” – Kirkus

Edit: Ditto on Clive Barker. Also, check out the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
Yeah, Stephen King is always good, but I say you should read Clive Barker also. Get the Books of Blood, which is a compilation of short stories. It has Rawhead Rex in it, which is a story of this huge, ogre like monster that had been sealed underground escaping and eating people all over rural England town. Freakin awesome.

They might be a little outdated, but I would try R.L. Stine’s Fear Street. Not Ghosts of Fear Street, just plain Fear Street. It depends on which book you get, some are from a girls point of view, and some are from a boys point of view, but they all focus on horror and suspense. Some times they will have a little romance, like flirting with a crush, but nothing more than that. They are very easy reads, and are page turners. I loved them. I wouldn’t get anything from Stephen King, because most of his books are very hard to read, and focus more on adult content. I’m pretty sure you’re not worried about that, but they don’t exactly hold my attention well (I’m also 14). I can’t really focus when I read any of his novels. Hope I helped!
Try the Cirque du Freak series by Darren Shan.
