@bonio48a Agreed. Dewey reminds me of my Coon. A lot of fans agree that Dewey was most likely a Maine Coon.

      Hey im Nadhira from indonesia.

I just finished the book, It was really awesome and amazed!
Is that the movie in the book? I mean when the library was crowded and saw the movie of Dewey for the first time. So please let me know. Is that the original movie? Im a huge fan! thanks

I have just finished the book, it was wonderful but so sad. I can’t believe the vet said he was just an “Alley Cat” though – I’ve got two Maine Coons and they are exactly the same in physical characteristics and demeanour!

I was a mess reading the book when Dewey was put to sleep. Both cats i’ve had were put to sleep and you say to yourself ‘I’m gonna be strong, im gonna be strong’ but inevitably, the tears come. Cats are amazing animals and if you haven’t read the book, please do.

      Such a sweet story.
My experience with cats is that when given unconditional, consistent love as a kitten, they will act as lovable as a dog.
      Thanx for posting. :-) )

i just read the book – for a second time. i can feel how miserable it can be for vicky who spent 16 years of her life with dewey. no more waving at the front door, no more dewey waiting every morning..that makes me feel sad just to think about it.

    • cyrix01 says:

No you’re not! I actually started tearing up reading about his last day, and how he still performed his “duties” even though he was weak.

      RIP Dewey.

I’ve read the Dewey Book. It’s really touching me. A clever cat with a great ability to socialize with humans and love people, had made Spencer citizens happier. Dewey really means to us as an unusual great cat forever in our hearts. I can imagine the meaning of cats as our part of life. My cat, Uti dies when she was 14. I remembered her as my youngest sister…

I just finished the book this week… hmmm… I’m speechless… it is a beautiful, moving story that gives us a glimpse of the love cats are capable of, their capacity for companionship and friendship… and their true depth of character. Dewey was an ambassador for all his kind. I will read this book again. Thank you Vicki!!
