I need help because none of my friends are really into the whole horror thing so I’m looking for classic horror books specifically because the modern stuff isn’t as good, or so I’ve found. Feel free to prove me wrong

Original versions of Dracula, Frankenstein, & Dr. Jeckel, Mr. Hyde. Also I really enjoyed The Witching Hour by Anne Rice

Well, in poetry you could try Edgar Allen Poe. The Telltale Heart is classic.
Modern stuff that might be interesting:
Some stuff by Chuck Palahniuk is considered somewhat horror. Although these aren’t his best works, they’re still entertaining. Look at Haunted, Lullaby.
Bret Easton Ellis released Lunar Park last year or so and it was absolutely great. His first horror style book as far as I am aware. It’s very surreal and fascinating.

Look into the Ravenloft series, open-ended horror novels. Those’re the only ones I know of, as I mostly read fantasy.
